| In the Basque Country,
art is not something hidden away in museums but something
that comes alive on rocks and trees, forming part of the
physiognomy of towns and cities. Paintings by its Prehistoric
settlers, the greatest of masters, the most innovative
of tendencies all await to be enjoyed by art lovers. |

The Guggenheim
Museum Bilbao could be defined as a work of art enclosing
works of art. The first building of the 21st century provides
an ideal setting for the most spectacular, avant-garde
and eclectic exhibitions.
In the Basque Country you can also enjoy
some of the best art collections in Spain at the Fine
Arts Museum or at the new Artium Museum of Contemporary
Art, and the great masters, such as Goya or El Greco of
the private collection at the Zuloaga Museum. |

| We would specially
like to mention the work of the local artist Eduardo Chillida,
which is considered among the most symbolic and significant
of our times. Now we have the chance to appreciate this
artist's evolution over a period of fifty years thanks
to Chillida Leku where, in a 17th century building and
in the surrounding gardens amongst oak, beech and magnolia
trees his art is displayed. A work of a lifetime taking
you right up to his demise. |
