Description of services |
Aurresku.
This traditional Basque dance is still performed
on special occasions in honour of distinguished
guests, to offer them our hospitality during their
stay.
Exhibition
and performance of Basque music and dances.
The musical exhibition will include local instruments
peculiar to the Basque Country such as Txalaparta,
a percussion instrument that can be played by more
than one musician or the Alboka which is played
with a circular breathing technique. Our customers
will have the chance to try out and prove their
skills with any of them.
The Performance of Basque music and dances includes
the most traditional forms of music and dancing
as well as contemporary music based on these very
same traditional instruments and rhythms, enriched
by influences from all over the world.
Exhibition
of Basque sports. The local sports are
mostly everyday tasks performed on farms. Once a
year these tasks become a contest where participants
compete to see who is the best in each activity.
Betting is also an important part of the event.
We will offer our clients an exhibition of some
of these sports and later invite them to take part
in one of them or to participate in the betting,
either against each other or on the people doing
the exhibition.
Gastronomic
Society. Food and drink have always been
considered important ingredients in any celebration
in the Basque Country and are in their own right
the reason to gather and have a good time. This
is true to the extent that all over the Basque Country
we can encounter societies or fraternities where
their members gather to celebrate the culinary skills
of its members or enjoy what each season has to
offer from the sea or the land. Nowadays we are
able to visit some of the most important ones as
the demand for these kind of places has increased
in recent times as they provide an excellent place
to receive visitors and to offer them a real culinary
experience.
Ochote.
Singing is also part of a good meal for the Basque
people, who usually end up singing when the coffee
and liqueur are on the table. This male choir of
8-12 singers will perform for our group during their
lunch. Their varied repertoire includes popular
songs from the Basque Country and Europe. The audience
are also free to join in if they wish.
Pintxos.
An important part of our culinary culture are these
small appetizers that were originally quite simple
but have now become small gastronomic masterpieces
that are enjoyed together with any of the fine wines
from the area.
Txakoli. For
those eager to discover new wines, txakoli is a
real treat. This traditional wine had almost disappeared
until a new generation stepped in and renewed the
elaboration of txakoli, using the local variety
of grapes. It can now be savoured at some of the
best restaurants in New York or Paris. The two official
guarantees of origin, Getaria and Bizkaia, which
have there own distinct personality, are still evolving
and exploring new paths with very interesting results.
