the wine producing area of La Rioja. We shall be
visiting the medieval town of Laguardia which boasts
Santa María de los Reyes, the only church
in Spain that preserves its polychrome façade.
Our next stop is at one of the area's traditional
wineries, where we will sample their produce and
try the local cuisine.
Day 3
Our first stop is at Gernika, home of the Sacred
Tree and the old Assembly House, symbols of democracy
for Basques. Our itinerary takes us to Donostia-
San Sebastian to have lunch at Arzak, (2 Star Michelin

along the shell shaped bay of this beautiful city
will help you understand why it is also called the
Pearl of the Bay of Biscay.
Day

 |
| Basque Gastronomy |
We will spend the morning
in Hondarribia; a town with cobblestone streets
in its Old Part and a lively Marina, home to the
fishermen, where you can mingle with the locals
and have a traditional pintxo and a good glass of
wine. At dinner, we will be the guests at a Gastronomic
Society, where we will enjoy not only their delicious
cuisine but also their singing.
Day 5
Chillida Leku is the result of fifty years of the
art of Eduardo Chillida, one of the most important
sculptors in the world. He created this extremely
interesting display of his work in a 17th century
farm house and in the park around it. We will continue
our day by driving along the coast to a traditional
winery in Getaria where txakoli, a local wine, is
produced. We shall be given an opportunity to sample
this wine over lunch. |
