Urdaibai Weekend |

Urdaibai is one of the three hundred areas in the
world declared a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco. Each
of these areas is characterised by a unique combination
of natural, historical and cultural values. The
tour we propose will take you not only through beautiful
well preserved landscape but will also take you
through time as we can trace the steps of man from
the times of the cavemen to the twenty-first century.
Saturday.
We will visit the estuary of Urdaibai, one of the
specially protected areas of the Biosphere Reserve
due to the many species of birds that find shelter
here during migration. We will then continue with
a walk through the countryside, following the Royal
Path, taking in on our way the traditional architecture
and beautiful scenery.
After lunch we will head towards the coast to visit
Bermeo, one of the oldest and most important ports
on the Basque coast. Here we will visit the old
part of the town, as well as its port and the Fisherman's
Museum located in the medieval tower of Ercilla.
Sunday.
Our day will start with a walk along the valleys
of Oma and Basondo in Kortezubi, where you will
have the chance to see how man and nature have been
able to strike a balance which is still present
today. An experienced guide will interpret the scenery
for you uncovering the natural richness and diversity
that the area encloses.
We then will continue to Elantxobe, a small fishing
village that hangs on the slopes of the cliff called
Ogoño, Here we will have lunch. In the afternoon
a boat cruise provides us with the opportunity to
appreciate the magnificent views of Ogoño,
and having circled the island of Izaro, we will
be taken to Mundaka, one of the oldest and most
beautiful towns in Bizkaia, where many traditions
remain with us today. |
