| Urdaibai - Reserve
of the Biosphere |
Urdaibai provides an excellent
setting for outdoor activities. Located 45 km from
Bilbao, this area was declared a reserve of the
Biosphere in 1984 by the Unesco due to its natural,
historical and cultural values. The estuary, coastline
and hills are ideal for a great diversity of activities.
You can enjoy the sea in a kayak, or go windsurfing
or surfing; the waves in Mundaka are considered
among the best in the world.
The estuary is an important stop and a sanctuary
for many species of birds that can be observed from
a canoe or boat.
For those who like hiking or trekking there are
routes running through the woods of holm oak, and
other unspoilt areas where you may spot animals
such as boar or roe-deer or others that simply offer
the best views of this beautiful area. Many of them
are suitable for mountain biking.
Other options such as an adventure park or something
more relaxing like ballooning are also available. |
