San Sebastian and Bilbao are among the ten Spanish cities with higher levels of tourism competitiveness, a classification that lead Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia.These are some of the conclusions of Tourism Competitiveness Monitor UrbanTUR 2012 conducted by the Alliance for Tourism Excellence, Exceltur, a document that measures the position of the 20 major urban destinations in Spain.San Sebastian is ranked fifth in this ranking, after those above Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia and Sevilla behind, which is the fourth most competitive destination. Bilbao is in seventh place after Malaga.
After Bilbao it can be found cities such as Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza, Granada, Salamanca, Oviedo, Cordoba, La Coruna, Alicante, Santander, Toledo, Burgos, Oviedo and Leon.All elements show competitive advantages that influence the development of tourism, but to get an overall view should consider its position in relation to those similar in size, geographical location, cultural background or economic structure.The report establishes a "Decalogue" structured on six pillars: entertainment offering business products; urban environment and local life, accessibility and mobility, governance and strategic management and tourism results.
