World Cities Summit Mayors Forum 2013 in Bilbao for the first time

The Mayors Forum has become one of the most important and biggest platforms in the world for city leaders to come together to discuss urban issues. The fourth Mayors Forum in Bilbao is expected to attract more Mayors from Europe, Latin American and North American cities. It will also cover issues of relevance and interest to these regions from urban rejuvenation, economic resilience, to sustaining the urban environment and managing diversity. Mr Khoo Teng Chye, Executive Director of the Centre for Liveable Cities said: "We chose to hold the next Mayors Forum in 2013 in Bilbao to further extend its reach to more regions.

It is significant that Bilbao is hosting the Mayors Forum given its own success in regenerating itself over the years. Mr Ng Lang, Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Redevelopment Authority said: "We are happy to have Bilbao as our first partner to host the Mayors Forum outside Singapore, given that it is the first Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize Laureate. Bilbao City Hall's strong leadership and commitment to a systematic and long-term plan has rejuvenated this post-industrial city and transformed it into a definitive cultural landmark in Spain and Europe. It is an excellent setting for the Mayors Forum."
